Lever
My third year coursework included a class titled Methods and Materials for Manufacturing, in which we explored the physical properties and processes of manufacturing various materials, design for manufacturing, designing within manufacturer constraints, and effectively communicating designs and documenting them properly in design control documents.
Lever was the result of an exercise in which we were to design a household item for a fictional manufacturer, with some specific material and equipment constraints. Upon completing the design, prototypes and design control documents (DCDs) were handed off to the manufacturer - in this case a random classmate.
DCD
Central to the project was the Design Control Documentation, my primary method of communicating the design to my manufacturer.
The Final Product
My manufacturing partner did a fantastic job of replicating my design, based almost entirely on the control documents and original prototype.
